A few weeks ago, I posted this recipe for birthday funfetti cake batter marshmallows.

Birthday Cake Marshmallows on a Sprinkle Cake Stand by 1 Fine Cookie

…and promised to show you how to make the cake stand. I’d like to think it is incredibly cute.

Almost as cute as my dog. Cutest dog in the world

Or little turtles.

ninja turtles

Found via

Turtle power.

Or football babies.

Apparently these guys are considered very cute?

One Directions in sweats

I’m taking bets on who ends up in rehab first.   They’re like NKOTB but with skinny pants on all the time. (Although I didn’t really like NKOTB growing up, so this explanation doesn’t really help me at all.) Less attractive too (As if that were possible. Well, I could say the blonde one is cute but that might make me a pedophile. How old are these fellas?).

One directions with puppies

Give me my dog back, bitches.

If they are the new “cute” trend, then I am going to start my own.

Farting in tubs. It’s catching on like wildfire.

I mean, because One Direction being cute is about as arbitrary as considering an iguana fart cute.

As for the cake stand, there is no arguing its cuteness. You can customize it with whatever colors you please. Not to mention, it’s a great idea with those cute sprinkles you bought and never really had a reason to use. (Some have this issue with shoes and clothes. Or Star Wars action figures. Weirdo.)

This is really simple, it’s just a matter of gathering the right materials.

Here’s What You Need for your Sprinkle Cake Stand,

- Royal Coat Decoupage (like Modge Podge but much more water resistant. Can be found in some arts and craft stores, or order online here.)

- Non-toxic Spray Paint (Such as Krylon H2O Latex Spray Paint, order here)

- A plate (any kind your like, an old one or from a dollar store)

Candle holder (such as the one I purchased from Ikea, or you can find in dollar/Goodwill stores)

Sprinkles (I used these pastel rainbow sprinkles, but if you want a smaller amount you can order these instead)
– A heavy duty glue, such as E6000 (purchase here)

Spray plate and candle holder with spray paint (The can below is just an example as the other was thrown out by mistake. Make sure your spray paint is the non-toxic kind).

spray top and bottom

Once dry turn plate over (and candle holder, if necessary) and spray other side. Allow to completely dry.

pour sprinkles on top

Cover candle holder in the decoupage glue in sections. Apply enough so that when you scatter sprinkles over it, they stick.

Be very careful not to touch the sprinkles once on holder, as they are not sticking on well at this point.

Do the same with the plate.   Allow decoupage to completely dry. Be very careful about touching sprinkles, or else they will fall off.

add layers of decoupage on top of sprinkles

Once fully dry, cover in another layer of decoupage. Feel free to add more sprinkles if where needed. Allow to dry, then add another layer of decoupage.

I did repeated this step many times (yeah, I lost count) as I wanted the sprinkles to be fully coated and be safe from chipping off.

Once the last layer is totally dry, use heavy duty glue to attach the candle holder to the plate.

Allow the cake stand to dry and harden. The longer you leave it to set before using, the better.

Note: Although this decoupage was the most water resistant I could find, it is by no means water PROOF. You cannot place this in the dishwasher or submerge into water. Clean it with a dry paper towel or cloth. If it is a little more messy, then dab/gently wipe off with a damp cloth.

This is seriously so cute.

Almost as cute as this,

…but not quite.

  4. Judy says:

You are attaching the plate to the candle holder with the mod podge???? or with some other glue? Read the directions a few times and did not see how.

    • Jasmin says:

@judy, Holy cow how was that left out? Once we get to my computer the glue will be added to the tool list. (it was not the decoupage FYI)

  16. Bernadette Niebuhr says:

Very cute! But, is it safe to put food directly on stand? Should there be a doily or cake board of some kind.

    • Jasmin says:

@bernadette, If I put cupcakes on they have liners, cookies and marshmallows are dry, and for a cake I usually leave the parchment paper lining on underneath that I baked it on.
I would say yes, try to place something underneath unless it is a dry dessert.
