The aspect of football season that excites me so much (besides football itself, of course) is the ability to make food that has meat, cheese, carbs, or is in dip form. All of my guilty pleasures. Oh yes, and beer of course.
It’s a plethora of snack food and comfort dishes thrown onto a fold-out or coffee table. If there is a way to combine a salty snack with a little sweet, then all the better.
Not only do these football-themed nuts work well for tailgating, they would be wonderful for a party table, and especially as a gift. You can personalize these based on your favorite team.
First, I will show you how to make chocolate almond footballs. These are very simple. The macadamia helmets take a couple of extra steps, but well worth it.
Here is what you need:
For the footballs,
– chocolate covered almonds
– sandwich bag or bags for piping
– white chocolate or white candy melts
For the football helmets,
– styrofoam or a fruit (an apple or orange)
–Â candy melts in all of the colors on your team’s football helmets
-luster dust, if you want a shimmery helmet
Grab your chocolate covered almonds.
Take your white chocolate or white candy melts and melt in a microwave in 15 second spurts, mixing in between until smooth.
You can either spoon the chocolate into a piping bag or you can use a sandwich bag.
Snip off the end (just an itty bitty bit).
While the chocolate is still warm, pipe a line down the almond.
Then pipe three small lines perpindicular to the long line.
Next, pipe a line around each end. It does not need to look nice on the bottom.
Allow white chocolate to dry.
If chocolate begins to harden and cool, pop out of bag and reheat.
Now for the football helmets.
You need some macadamia nuts.
Stick a toothpick on the end of each nut.
Melt the chocolate/candy melt that is the base color of the football helmets.
Dip the nut on one side and shake off any excess chocolate. Dip another side so it looks like a deformed Pac Man, or something.
Stick into styrofoam or a fruit and allow to dry.
If your team has silver, gold, or a shimmery color then brush the luster dust on.
Melt candy melts and spoon into piping or sandwich bags.
These are supposed to be Patriots helmets. I’m from Boston, I’m sorry, I can’t help it. I will show you another team helmet later.
I piped the blue on first. In your case pipe out a simplified logo onto the corner of the chocolate.
Then, pipe chocolate around edge of the helmets, then the mask.
Here is what the footballs look like:
See? Easy! I could just die eating these things all day.
Oh, and in case you like college football a little more I made some Georgia football helmets.
Sorry if you are a Tennessee fan. Hey, I can’t please everyone.
But seriously, if you have a friend/child/significant other/frenemy/boss you want a promotion from/whatevs who loves football, this would be their favorite gift. Much better than a gift card.
And here are the professional football nuts. (haha she said nuts)
Go ahead. Make the rival fans jealous. Or, should you be visiting your opponent’s territory, at least bribe them with tasty treats in exchange for immunity.
You can probably find a bowl or container at the dollar store.
I’m seriously dying right now. Dead.
Go ahead. Make the rival fans jealous. Or, should you be visiting your opponent’s territory, at least bribe them with tasty treats in exchange for vowed safety.
