3D Stand Mixer Cookies
Whenever I get a rare second to think (millisecond is more accurate), I think to myself how much my life has changed since I became a food blogger and freelancer food writer/photographer.
For example, I don’t have much free time (in case I didn’t make myself clear). Most of my fellow career food bloggers get it. Friends and family? Pshhhhhhhh. Hanging out with my peeps is a rarity.
A food blogger hangs out with her/his kitchen appliances more than other humans. My stand mixer is my best friend, no joke. Why not? I spend almost every day with it. His name is Toby.
It’s gotten so bad, I’ve begun taking Toby with me everywhere.
We read books at the park. I make fun of Toby for his Professor McGonagall spectacles.
We hang by the pool and get our tan on.
 My one and only.
Then there’s movie night.
I can’t watch scary movies. Not even the commercials. Of course, Toby loves them and forces me to watch them.
After Lord of the Rings, he promised no more scary movies for a while. I couldn’t sleep for days.
So in honor of Toby, and all of the kitchen appliances us food photographers and writers depend on, I made 3D stand mixer cookies.
Ingredients
- Cookie dough (I used half of this recipe with plenty leftover.)
– Royal icing (From the same link as the cookie dough recipe, found here.)
Optional: You will also need a few ingredients for a glaze icing in addition to the royal icing if you would like to color your bowls,
-Â 2-3 T milk
– 1 cup confectioner’s Sugar
Optional: If you want some shine to your mixers use,

Â
Begin by making your cookie dough and royal icing as instructed in my recipe here. I used less than half of the cookie dough and about 4 egg whites were sufficient to decorate about  3D cookies for the royal icing recipe.
Roll out your cookie dough and cut out circles  that are about 1 3/4 -2 inches in diameter. Cut out J’s and use your fingers to curl the ends under and shape them into the head of the mixing stands.
Place in freezer until completely firm. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or until right before they brown.
Take your brownie pop mold and flip over. Cut the plastic that connects each round cavity so there is space in between each.
Roll out some more cookie dough into a very thin sheet. Â Place on top of overturned pop mold.
Drape dough as close to round portion as possible, then lightly press sides in. Use a sharp knife to cut around and create an even line. Make sure to cut about an inch above the bottom as the dough will spread while it bakes.
Place in freezer until completely rock hard. Bake at 375 degrees for about 8-10 minutes. If you like, once out of the oven you can use something heat safe to slightly press the bottom down so that the cookie bowl will sit upright.
Mix together your 1 cup of confectioner’s sugar and 1 teaspoon of milk along with vanilla extract (if you like) and a touch of black food coloring to make it grey.
Mix.
The icing glaze will be much thinner than the royal icing recipe, which will look more like this:
Place cookie bowls on shot glasses and drizzle a layer or two of glaze over each until covered. Allow to dry. Optional: If you want your mixing bowls to be silver, brush with luster dust.
Divide royal icing into six bowls with a little more in one. Use a touch of food coloring to create pastel colors. The bowl with slightly more will be colored with a touch of black to make grey.
Scoop into piping bags with tip cut off. Make sure to place tip inside of bag first.
You will then use the piping bags to outline and fill the mixer heads. Feel free to do whatever way you choose, or use the photo above as a guideline. I allow icing to dry in between each step. Finish off by using the grey to add a few details. Outline and fill circle cookies as well.
Next, pipe out a puddle of icing. Place the circle down over half, then the neck of mixer behind the circle. Use knives, spoons or anything heavy to hold neck up carefully until dry. I found spoons worked the best.
Wait until COMPLETELY dry before handling. I also piped on a little extra to back for reinforcement.
Pipe a little icing onto bottom of cookie bowls, then adhere to mixer base. Allow to completely dry and set overnight.
These cookies put puppy posts on the internet to shame.
These are my two favorite colors. So cheery.
….Let us not forget about Toby.
An ode to the things that make my life easier in the kitchen.
You know, because they are a perfectly fine replacement for human friends.

I love you for how bizarre you are…I just posted bent cookies this week. We clearly need to go into business together in those milliseconds of free time we have.
@Kimberly, well that’s a good id- wait my milisecond is up. Gotta run.
I love that you set up that photoshoot with Toby. And that Toby’s mixing bowl is full of popcorn when watching the movie. Classic.
And I love the look of these cookies. Excellent.

Hi, Jasmin, I’m Felicia’s BFF from nursing school and I absolutely adore this post! I thought it was nuts when I wrote an Ode to a Pizza Stone, but you and Toby are in a class by yourselves.
I also simply love your **** note in the middle and bottom of the post. I sure hope that works to keep content scrapers on the up and up.
Thanks for making me smile today!
