Tuxedo Appetizers

I went to a handful of proms and although enjoyed them, was never really ecstatic about it. I won something like prom court, not sure, because I left early. Whoops.

NOW, if I could make tuxedo appetizers when I was on the prom committee, I would be WAY more pumped.  Pretty much just hang around by the food table. Flash forward many years later, and I spent New Year’s Eve eating a cheese plate at some after party. Nobody else cared about the cheese plate but me. Bunch of weirdos, if you ask me.

Make these tuxedo appetizers for formals, proms, weddings, award show viewing parties, New Year’s Eve, or just about any fashionable and dressy event.

Ingredients for Tuxedo Appetizers

Soft cheese wedge slices (or any cheese of your choice)

Sausage

Red bell pepper

Dry black caviar lentils (or any small, dry bean or rice)

Pretzel Crisps or crackers

To begin your tuxedo appetizers, grab cheese that is still cold and firm from the refrigerator and place over an unheated slice of sausage underneath cheese. Have a corner of the slice of cheese facing down on sausage, so that it looks like a ‘V’ shape. Using a knife, trace cheese along the top of the sausage slice so that the top of the ‘V’ is round and conforms to slice curve.

Take about three dry lentils, or any small and round, dry bean and place them down the center of the cheese.

Slice a piece of red bell pepper that is flat. Cut into thin strips, then section out into rectangles. Cut a triangle on the top and bottom to create a bowtie. Place one bowtie on the top of each cheese slice.

Slice sausage and heat according to packet instructions. For nicely browned sausage slices, heat up on a skillet rather than in a microwave. Remove from pan and place on paper towels to soak up excess grease.

Construct your tuxedo appetizer by placing a sausage slice on top of a Pretzel Crisp, then a cheese wedge.

How hilarious are these tuxedo appetizers? They’re easy to make. Not to mention, they’ll be more fun to eat all night than have awkward conversations with other guests. Just sayin’.
